Rebecca Mercer

I recently did some framing for a fabulous local artist Rebecca Mercer.

When Rebecca first approached me about framing her work i was blown away! she is one of the best artists that i have seen for a long time. Her colourful and powerful yet fragile images are so detailed, you can’t stop looking at them, always seeing something new.

Rebecca says about her work; “I like to paint people involved in the mundane work of daily life. Washing up and walking in the high street. Fleeting, vivid details in the life of the urban landscape and its inhabitants. The unnoticed, trifling moments that are stitched together to create a lifetime”.

Her large collection of work consists of various sized oils painted on linen boards and canvases, oil pastels on paper, charcoal, pencil and watercolours.

Rebecca is currently showing her work at The Wirksworth Festival 2012    7th-23rd September

Collagraph Workshop Dates

My Collagraph Workshops

The course consists of 2 days, either 2 consecutive Wednesdays or Sundays.  A week between courses allows for the plate to dry and for Julie to give it 2 coats of button polish (varnish ). This prepares the plate to take the ink.

The workshop duration is from 10am until 4pm and all materials are  included. Refreshments are also supplied, this consists of my own homemade breads, cakes and biscuits, coffee/tea and speciality teas.  I do have a fridge and microwave if you wish to bring your own food.

You will need to bring an apron, a pair of rubber gloves and some ideas, either sketches or even magazine cuttings…… it really is for  everyone, artist and non-artist!

The cost is £90 for the 2 days, maximum of 4 students each workshop day.
The 1st day is plate making.
The 2nd day is printing from the plate made in week one.

Students can come back and use The Artisans’s Studio facilities anytime* at a cost of £10 per hour ( per person ) to use the studio space and the press. There will be an ink charge between £5- £10, you can supply you’re own paper or we charge £3.50 for a full sheet, or £1.75 for half a sheet, Bockingford 300gsm watercolour paper.

Collagraph Workshops

Fancy having a go at something new? Why not try your hand at collagraph printing?

This is a very unusual art form that lends itself to all abilities, artist and non artist, and can be as simple or complex as you would like it to be….the possibilities are endless.
Collagraph is essentially a form of printing. You start with a base plate and layer up with textured materials as you would a collage, and seal with button polish. The plate is then inked up with intaglio inks, burnished back, layered with damp watercolour paper and pulled through a traditional printing press.

So have a go and start your own exciting journey of collagraph and texture….

The workshops will be taking place at The Artisans Studio – on the first two Wednesdays and Sundays of each month.
Each workshop is a two day course from 10am- 4pm.
The price is £90.00 for the two days, this includes all materials and refreshments.

You will be required to bring some ideas, a pair of rubber gloves and an apron…. and of course yourself!

Eve and Fox Jewellery

Eve and Fox jewellery is lovingly handmade in a small studio in Leicester, England. They were inspired to design ranges that were highly original with a whimsical feminine style. The range is constantly evolving – incorporating botanical themes with unusual vintage finds, finished with pretty beads and fresh water pearls.

We stock Eve and Fox jewellery at The Artisans Studio, so call in and see the range!

Framing Collectables

We frame a lot of interesting and unusual items from football shirts and christening outfits to the iced flowers on the top of wedding cakes.

With the shirts we firstly make a foam board template to wrap the shirt around using dress makers pins, no glues or tapes are ever used, so the shirt can be removed without any damage.

We frame them using a very deep frame with  a matching spacer that keeps the glass away from the shirt, this gives that contemporary box frame look.

Both the mount and backing boards used  are to our usual acid free specifications.

To finish off  an inscription and complementing photographs can be added to make the item even more personal to the recipient.

Manchester City success! – Jill receiving her signed shirt with her niece Lisa.

Successful Ladies Night

Thanks to all the folks that attended my Ladies Night.

It was great fun, and a bit manic!! Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves!

The new lines from Fizgig glass and Sativa bags where both well received.

The cakes went down a storm especially my dads coconut pyramids and my raspberry cupcakes!! But most did not know that the blueberry muffins where blueberry muffins, i will put a label on them next time!!

The raffle was won by Marie Payne.

Thanks for coming, see you all soon, Julie x
